Kozhukattai sundal / Spicy kozhukattai

I remember, in my childhood days, my mother used to prepare Paal kozhukattai very often. Along with that, she will prepare kozhukattai sundal or spicy kozhukattai also. It will be very tasty and my sister and myself enjoyed a lot with her sweet and spicy dishes. Now also when i am going to my mother's house or my sister's house, they will prepare these two kozhukattai. Let us see how to prepare the tasty "Kozhukattai sundal" - The Ganesha chathurthy festive recipe.
Basic information :
Preparation time : 15 Mins
Cooking time : 15 Mins
Serve for : 3 Persons
Ingredients :
Rice flour : 1 Bowl
Salt : To taste
Oil : 2 Tsp
Mustard seeds : 1/4 Tsp
Curry leaves : Few
Peanut : 1 Tsp
Sesame seeds(ellu) : 1 Tsp
Grated coconut : 4 Tsp
Red chilly             :   3 Nos
Method :
In a bowl, mix rice flour with warm water to make smooth dough.
Make mini balls in the dough.
Boil water in a pan. When the water started rolling to boiling, add mini rice balls and cook.
After the balls cooked well, drain the water well.
Dry fry peanuts and sesame seeds (black ellu) and grind it partially without adding water after getting cool and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. After the seeds spluttered, add curry leaves and red chilly.
Add cooked rice balls (kozhukattai) saute.
Add salt, ground powder, grated coconut and saute well.
After mixed well transfer to the serving plate and serve hot.

Paal Kozhukattai - Yummy Sweet recipe

Paal kozhukattai is prepared with rice flour and jaggery milk. It is one of the very popular sweet item in Tamil Nadu. When i prepare this, i remembered my mother. She will prepare very nice and very often especially for Gansha chathurthy. I learnt from her only. It is very simple and yummy dish. We can prepare with soak and grind rice flour. I prepared this with normal rice flour which is bought from grocery shop. Let we see how to prepare the delicious Paal kozhukattai.
basic information :
Preparation time : 15 Mins
Cooking time : 15 Mins
Serve for : 4 Persons
Ingredients :
Raw rice flour : 1 Bowl
Jaggery : 1/4 Kg
Cardamon powder : 1 Tsp
Grated coconut : 3 Tsp
Milk            
Method :
In bowl, take the rice flour, mix with water to make smooth dough.
Make small balls in the dough. Make it sure, the balls should be small in size. We can make other shapes also but small. Otherwise, it will take more time to cook.
Mix jaggery in water and make it mixed. After mixed well, drain the jaggery water to remove the dust.
Add 1/2 cup of milk in the jaggery water and allow it to boil. When the milk+water started rolling to boil, add flour balls slowly to the milk.
Cook well the balls (kozhukattai). After cooked well, add grated coconut, cardamon powder and keep it for thickening. If you want watery, you can switch off the flame.
Transfer to the serving bowl, the koukattai along with the jaggery milk and serve hot.

mixed vegetable lababdar

Mixed veg lababdar is one of the famous recipe in the state Punjab. I tasted this in one Punjabi restaurant. It was very nice and i tried at home in my way. It came very well with same taste. I am adding three vegetables which is tricolor - carrots, beans, potato. We can add other veggies also. Being added all the veggies, it is a healthy curry. This curry goes with chapathy, poori and with rice or all vegetarian variety rices like, Tomato rice, lemon rice, coconut rice, Kuska rice etc.
Basic information :
Preparation time : 10 Mins
Cooking time : 20 Mins
Serve for : 3 Persons
Ingredients :

For grind :
Cinnamon : 2 Nos
Cardamon : 2 Nos
Fennel seeds : 1 Tsp
Pepper : 1 Tsp
Onion : 1 No
Grated ginger : 1 Tsp
Garlic : 5 Cloves
Green chilly : 4 Nos
For saute :
Oil : 3 Tsp
Curry leaves : Few
Turmeric powder : 1/4 Tsp
Coriander powder : 1 Tsp
Salt : To taste
Carrot : 1 No
Potato : 1 No
French beans : 5 Nos
Capsicum : 1/2 No
Method : 
Chop the vegetables and cook it with adding turmeric powder and salt.
Heat oil in a pan, saute all the grind ingredients well and grind it nicely after getting cool.
Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, chopped capsicum, ground masala and saute well. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Saute well and add water.
After 3-5 minutes of cooking, add cooked veggies and cook for 5 minutes.
After cooked well, transfer to the serving dish and serve hot.

Jaggery seedai / vella seedai - Festive recipe

Vella seedai in preparing with homemade rice flour with jaggery milk called pagu. This is one of the famous festive recipe in Tamil Nadu. This seedai will prepare for Diwali, Ganesha chathurthy, Gowri pooja, Gokulashtami. For making this, the jaggery milk or pagu consistency is very much important. It should be in string consistency and the batter should not be loose. My mother used to prepare for every Diwali and my aunt also will prepare in every occasion. It is very tasty and simple festive recipe.
Basic information :
Preparation time : 15 Mins
Serve for : 4 Persons
Ingredients :
Raw rice : 1 Bowl
Jaggery : 1/4 Kg
Cardamon powder : 1 Tsp
Seasome seeds : 2 Tsp
Oil : For fry
Method :
Soak the raw rice for at-least 30 minutes. After that rinse well and drain the water completely. After drained the water grind it nicely.
 In 1/2 a cup of water, add smashed jaggery and allow it to mix well in water. Drain the water, so that, the dust will removed. Keep the jaggery water in medium flame and allow it to boil well. Boil it till the string consistency comes.
When the pagu came in string consistency, add it in to the rice flour and mix with adding seasome seeds, cardamon powder. The mixing dough should be thick. keep the dough for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, make small size balls in the dough.
Heat oil in a pan, deep fry the balls till golden brown color comes.
Then transfer to the serving bowl and serve. We can keep it for long time in air tight container.

Egg curry

Egg curry is one of the favorite recipe and it goes with chapathy, poori, rice. Adding egg in everyday meal is healthy menu for all especially for kids. We can make different items with using egg like, egg kurma, egg masala etc. It is a thick gravy with boiled eggs. I added coconut paste to thickening the gravy. It is very very tasty and i learned this from my mother.

Egg is having a lot of health benefits. It is rich in protein and essential amino acids. Having egg helps to prevent heart attacks, strokes and prevent blood clot. Egg regulates our body's nervous system. The most important benefit for women is, it helps to prevent Brest cancer. The Vitamins and minerals in the egg are helps to have healthy hair growing.

ingredients :

Egg : 3 No
Potato : 1 No
Oil : 3 Tsp
Cinnamon : 2 Nos
Cloves : 2 Nos
Onion : 1 No
Grated ginger : 1 Tsp
Tomato : 1 No
Turmeric powder : 1/4 Tsp
Chilly powder : 1 Tsp
Coriander powder : 2 Tsp
Salt : To taste
For grind :
Coconut : 3 Pcs
Fennel seeds : 1 Tsp
Garlic : 4-5 Cloves
Method :
Boil the eggs and potato. Peel off the potato and cube it.
Grind the ingredients which is under for grind heading.
Heat oil in a pan, add cinnamon, cloves. Add onion slices, curry leaves and saute well. Add chopped tomato and saute well till the tomato smashed.
Add ground coconut masala, all masala powders and add water. Add salt and close the pan with the lid.
After 5-8 minutes of cooking, the raw smell of the masala gone, add potato cubes and cracked eggs.
After adding eggs, keep the gravy in medium flame for 5-6 minutes. Then transfer to the serving dish and serve hot.

Kappa cake / Maravalli kizhangu cake / Tapioca cake

Preparing different dish from Maravalli kizhangu or Kappa / Tapioca is one of the famous dish in Kerala. Being a lot health benefits in kappa, we can give to all kids. But my daughter will not eat when i am preparing this in normal style. Then i decided to prepare something different dish from kappa. My sister said to prepare sweet item with this. I tried this and my daughter doesn't know, this is made from kappa. She ate and she liked very much.
Health benefits :
Kappa is having a lot health benefits. It is having lot of carbohydrates. It helps to reduce our blood pressure, cholesterol and controls the blood sugar level. It reduce the risk of obesity also. It is rich in copper and magnesium. Copper helps to having healthy nerves function which helps to relieve from stress, anxiety. Kappa is rich in Vitamin C, reduce the risk of heart diseases and cancer.     
Basic information :
Preparation time : 5 Mins
Cooking time : 40 Mins
Serve for : 4 persons
Ingredients :
Kappa : 1/2 Kg
Grated coconut : in 1/2 no
Cardamon powder : 1 Tsp
Sugar : As per taste
Ghee : To grease
Method :
peel off the kappa, wash well and grate it nicely.
Squeeze out  the water of it by pressing with your palm to make it dry.
Add grated coconut, sugar, cardamon powder in the dry kappa and mix it well by pressing with your hand.
Grease ghee in a plate and keep the kappa mix, press it tight. We can add pista or cashews on the top.
Boil water in a kadai or a idli pan, put the kappa mix plate and close the pan with the lid.
Keep it in medium flame for 40-45 minutes. After cooked well, takeout from the kadai and cut it in you wanted shapes.
Transfer to the serving plate and serve.
