We can make pongal in 2 types. Sweet pongal and spicy pongal. Sweet pongal will be making in Tamil festival "Pongal". This spicy pongal is called Venpongal in Tamil Nadu. It is very tasty and made with raw rice and moong dal. For more tasty, we are adding ghee and cashews. This pongal is may get in some of the temples as prasadam. Venpongal is goes with coconut chutney and sambar. Otherwise we can have with Kerala dish Aviyal. Let's prepare the tasty Venpongal.

Raw rice | : | 1 Cup |
Moong dal | : | 1/4 Cup |
Pepper | : | 2 Tsp |
Cumin seeds | : | 2 Tsp |
Chopped Ginger | : | 1 Tsp |
Curry leaves | : | 10 Nos |
Oil | : | 2 Tsp |
Ghee | : | 3 Tsp |
Cashewnut | : | 2 Tsp |
Salt | : | As per taste |
Wash the rice and moong dal well. Heat oil in pressure cooker, add pepper and cumin seeds.Add chopped ginger, curry leaves and fry.
Add washed rice and moong dal and fry a little. Add salt.
Add water in 1:2 ratio, close the cooker lid and allow it for 2 whistles.
after 2 whistles, wait for 5 minutes. Heat ghee in a pan, add cashews and fry.
Add the fried cashews into the cooked pongal and transfer to the serving dish and serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
Add washed rice and moong dal and fry a little. Add salt.
