Bitter gourd curry / Pavarkai puli kuzhambu

Bitter gourd curry is one of the famous south Indian curry. This is filled with tangy gravy. So it is called Pavarkai pulikuzhambu. Pavarkai means, bitter gourd in Tamil. Rich tangy with bitter less bitter gourd. For making bitter less, we have to saute the bitter gourd slices in oil. For this curry, we need some extra oil. No matter.. Bitter gourd is having a good health benefits. We can strongly recommend for diabetic patients. Let we see how to prepare the tasty Bitter gourd tamarind curry.
Basic information :

Serve for : 3 Persons
Ingredients :
Bitter gourd : 1 No
Sesame oil : 3 Tsp
Onion : 1/2 Cup
Garlic : 2 Tsp
Tomato : 3 Nos
Tamarind : 1/2 Cup
Turmeric powder : 1/4 Tsp
Chilly powder : 1 Tsp
Coriander powder : 2 Tsp
Salt : To taste
For dry powder :
Methy seeds : 1/4 Tsp
Mustard seeds : 1/2 Tsp
Cumin seeds : 1 Tsp
Method :
Make dry powder after dry fry the given ingredients.
Wash the bitter gourd and slice it nicely. Heat sesame oil in a pan, fry the bitter gourd slices for 3-5 minutes.
Add nicely chopped onions, garlic, curry leaves and saute well. I am taking small onions(Sambhar onion). We can use big onions also.
Grind tomatoes and add the puree with the onion and bitter gourd and keep cook till the raw smell goes.
Add tamarind paste. Add all the masala powders and salt. Allow it to cook till the raw smell goes and oil comes out.
Add the dry powder and keep it for 5 more minutes in medium flame.
After cooked well, transfer to the serving dish and serve with rice..
